Electro Technical Officer

The Electro Technical Officer (ETO) course is a 4-month residential specialized training program designed to equip candidates with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to manage electrical and electronic systems onboard ships. Offered through Indian Merchant Navy Careers, this program prepares engineering graduates for a professional maritime career in the electrical department of Merchant Navy vessels.

Course Overview

The ETO course focuses on:

  • Shipboard electrical systems
  • Marine electronics & automation
  • Power generation and distribution systems
  • Troubleshooting & maintenance
  • Safety procedures as per STCW standards

Candidates also undergo mandatory STCW training approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India.

After successful completion of training, candidates receive guidance for shipboard opportunities through our placement support system.

Eligibility Criteria for ETO Course

To apply for the Electro Technical Officer course, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • B.E / B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) from an AICTE-recognized institution
  • Minimum 50% marks in final year
  • Minimum 50% marks in English in 10th / 10+2 / Degree
  • Medically and physically fit for sea service
  • 6/6 eyesight and no colour blindness
  • Age between 18 to 25 years

These certifications are essential identification and qualification documents required to work onboard ships.

Certificates Awarded

Upon successful completion of the ETO course, candidates receive:

  • STCW Certificate approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India
  • Eligibility to join as Trainee Electrical Officer onboard Merchant Ships
  • INDOS (Indian National Database of Seafarers)
  • CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate)

These documents are mandatory identification and qualification certificates for seafarers.
