Pre Sea Training Course in India

The Pre Sea Training (PST) is a 45-day foundational program (30 days institutional training + 15 days STCW training) designed for candidates who aspire to build a career in the Merchant Navy after completing their 10th standard. This course provides essential awareness, discipline, and practical training required to begin a seafaring career. It is an ideal entry-level program for individuals seeking a structured and affordable pathway into the maritime industry.

STCW – Mandatory Safety Training

The course includes the mandatory STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) program. STCW equips candidates with critical safety knowledge and practical skills required onboard ships. It covers:

  • Personal survival techniques
  • First aid & medical care
  • Personal safety & social responsibilities
  • Emergency response at sea

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the Pre Sea Training course, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Passed 10th standard from a recognized board
  • Medically and physically fit
  • No colour blindness
  • Eye vision up to ±2.5 permitted (without visual impairment)

  • Age between 18 to 28 years

Certificates Awarded

Upon successful completion, candidates receive:

  • Pre-Sea Training Certificate
  • STCW Certificate
  • INDOS (Indian National Database of Seafarers) number
  • CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate)

These certifications are essential identification and qualification documents required to work onboard ships.

Career Progression After Pre Sea Training

Upon successful completion, candidates receive:

  1. Completion of 45-day PST + STCW training
  2. Join as Trainee Ordinary Seaman (Deck) / Trainee Wiper (Engine)
  3. Obtain Watchkeeping Certificate
  4. Sail as AB (Deck) / Oiler (Engine)
  5. Appear for NCV 2nd Mate (Deck) or Class 4 NCV (Engine) exams
  6. Progress to 2nd Officer / 4th Engineer

  7. With further experience and certification, rise to senior ranks such as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer
